This bud vase has been turned from Bocote, or “Mexican Rosewood”[Cordia alliodora]. Bocote is a tropical American hardwood with a medium coarse, very dramatic grain pattern. It can also be spectacularly colorful. The wood is dense and heavy, as are many tropical American woods. It takes a very fine finish, as revealed in this turned bud vase.
