This twig vase has been turned from Mappa, with burly character. In other words, while the wood is not fully burl, it has quite a bit of "burly character. " It has tremendous if subtle, figure and color. Mappa Burl is also known as European Black Poplar. It has become increasingly difficult to find and very expensive. Mexican Rosewood (Bocote) is not a true Rosewood but has all the figure and color of woods in the Dalgergia family.
