The bowl seen here was turned from American Red Elm (Ulmus americana). Although a great deal of American and British Elm species have died in recent years because of Dutch Elm Disease, the tree still flourishes in parts of the U.S., especially in the west. This bowl, with a classic ogee profile, was turned from a beautiful blank from Oregon. It reveals fully the wonderful wave-like grain, visible against the warm, light brown color.
