Honey Locust [Gleditsia triacanthos] is a beautifully warm-colored wood from the American heartland. It can be a bit challenging to cut cleanly even with a sharp gouge, but has beautiful striped coloring and take a wonderful finish, here—after sealing and final sanding—Danish oil is hand-rubbed into the wood. The final step in the finish is the application of a superior mixture of carnauba and beeswax in a gentle solvent. The turning appears lustrous, but without the “depth” of lacquer or other thicker finishes.
Ickebana" comes from the Japanese word for "flower arrangement."
