Vessel turned from Mexican Rosewood (Bocote), with African Blackwood finial

November 3, 2022

This elegant vessel was turned from Mexican Rosewood (Bocote) [Cordia alliodora], a tropical American hardwood with medium coarseness and a very dramatic grain pattern. It can also be spectacularly colorful. The wood is dense and heavy, as are many tropical American woods. It takes a very fine finish. African Blackwood, a member of the Rosewood family, is the premier detail wood available to woodturners and also takes a very fine finish.
