Vessel turned from Maple Burl and Cocobolo Rosewood

June 22, 2022

This tall vessel has been fashioned from a small but beautiful hollowed piece of Maple Burl. The pedestal and finial have been turned from Cocobolo Rosewood, sometimes called the "Queen of the Rosewoods" because of its beauty. It has, unfortunately, become increasingly hard to find because of Chinese efforts to commandeer the stock of this tropical American hardwood. Maple Burl is common in this country, but becoming greatly more expensive because of demand for the wood in furniture making (chiefly for veneer). But it is still possible to find the wood within my wide network of wood suppliers.

The height of this vessel gives it a notable elegance, despite the small diameter.
