Vessel turned from East Indian Rosewood, African Blackwood, and Satinwood (Sri Lanka)
January 10, 2023
East Indian Rosewood is a true rosewood (family Dalbergia), long used in furniture making and other fine woodworking. The wood is very dark, often with brown and purple flashes of figure. It is an excellent turning wood and takes a truly superb finish. The top of this vessel has been made from a piece of Satinwood, a gorgeous, golden wood from Sri Lanka, and the finial from another member of the rosewood family, African Blackwood---the premier detail wood available to woodturners. The contrast in colors gives a dramatic quality to the piece.
