Vessel turned from Canarywood, with lid and finial of Maidou Burl and Kingwood Rosewood

September 19, 2021

The primary wood in this elegant vessel is Canarywood, a tropical American hardwood that often has yellow as a strong feature of its overall color palette. The (fixed) lid is Maidou Burl from Vietnam---a spectacularly beautiful burl wood, but now almost impossible to find. I use it only in detail work. The finial is Kingwood, a true member of the Rosewood family (Dalbergia). It has fabulous color and takes an excellent finish. The three woods complement one another in ways I find very pleasing.
