Vessel turned from Australian Gold Mallee Burl Cap, with inlay of Camphor Burl (Vietnam), and Cocobolo Rosewood (tropical America)
This turning combines three of the most beautiful and precious of the world's woods--and from three different continents: Asia, Australia, and South America. They harmonize chromatically and the color combination was carefully chosen. A small section of the outer part of the Mallee Burl cap was preserved as a point of interest (the whole burl cap would have been covered with a similar texture before harvesting. The finial has been turned from an especially gorgeous piece of Cocobolo Rosewood (often called "Queen of the Rosewoods" [family Dalbergia]). The Mallee burl cap has been only partially hollowed, so the turning is relatively weighty and highly stable.
