The vase shown here has been turned from “Mexican Rosewood” (Bocote)  [Cordia alliodora]. It is a tropical American hardwood with a medium coarse, very dramatic grain pattern. It can also be spectacularly colorful. The wood is dense and heavy, as are many tropical American woods. It takes a very fine finish. For dried arrangements only
