This vase has been turned from a dramatic piece of Bocote, also known as "Mexican Rosewood." Bocote [Cordia alliodora] is a tropical American hardwood with a medium coarse, but very dramatic grain pattern. It can also be spectacularly colorful. The wood is dense and heavy, as are many tropical American woods. It takes a very fine, lustrous finish. (Not for use with water)
