Suspended hollow form turned from Camphor Burl (Vietnam), Ziricote, and brass

July 13, 2020

This beautiful Camphor Burl hollow form is suspended between a Ziricote base and fixed finial lid. I have added an inlaid ring of fine-grained brass where the finial meets the hollow form to add some drama to the color and design. Camphor Burl is one of my favorite turning woods, but like so many others is rapidly becoming too expensive to purchase in larger sizes. Ziricote is a hard, dark Meso-American hardwood that takes a fine finish.
