Lidded vessel turned from Mediterranean Olivewood and Cocobolo Rosewood

November 30, 2020

This vessel has been turned from two unusually heavy woods that happen to have complementary colors: Cocobolo Rosewood is heavier than water, but is relatively easy to turn in "end-grain fashion" (as seen here). Its color and figure have given it the name "Queen of the Rosewoods." OIivewood is also heavy and dense and has the figure to rival any heartwood. Ironically, it smells a bit like vinegar (!) during turning. Both woods take exceptionally fine finishes.
