Lidded vessel turned from Cherry, with fixed finial lid of Snakewood

July 13, 2020

This lidded form is turned from Cherry--a beautiful, soft, warm traditional American hardwood--and a very different tropical American hardwood, Snakewood. The latter is very hard, dark, and fantastic in its subtle figure (often likened to that of a snake, hence the name). Snakewood is very expensive, so I use it only for detail and finial work. These two contrasting woods complement one another in a variety of ways.

$70.
