Ickibana turned from Purpleheart, with water-holding pin barrel
November 14, 2020
There can be much doubt that Purpleheart (mainly from Central America) is one of the most dramatically colored of all the world's woods! It is also perhaps most fissile, and turning, even with very sharp tools, can be a challenge going across grain. But because it is so hard, Purpleheart also takes a spectacular finish. It's an ideal wood for ickibanas, and the water-holding pin barrel that has been fitted to the turning is particularly capacious.
