Ickibana fashioned from Buckeye Burl cap, with water-holding pin barrel

November 15, 2020

This is a very unusual ickibana, not really turned but fashioned into what can be seen here. The burl cap (which grows underground) was too interesting not to use somehow, and this was the only solution I could come up with. This gives a good sense of what the outside of a large Buckeye Burl looks like, and how large they can be. Much of what is harvested is not suitable for turning, but still has the unusual qualities of this unique wood.
