Hollow form turned from Mappa Burl

September 7, 2021

Mappa Burl [Populus tremula] is the burl wood of a European poplar tree. It is often use in veneer because of its light brown heartwood, which has a bark-like pattern of tight clusters. It can be iridescent as well. It is quite a light wood and can present stability problems when turned. This is an unusually fine example of an uncommon but beautiful wood.
