This display piece has been turned from a superb piece of Sapele (African Mahogany; Entandrophragma cylindricum). It is a gorgeous wood from tropical Africa and has a beautiful soft golden brown color and subtle figure. It is made especially beautiful by an outstanding iridescence, or more accurately chatoyance, a s wonderful optical reflection found in certain gemstones and woods. The inlaid ring of fine brass shavings gives wonderful definition to the rim and makes for an unusual combination. I consider this to be one of my best technical achievements in woodturning.
