Display piece of sea urchin and African Blackwood

January 20, 2024

This display piece has been fashioned from sea urchin and African Blackwood. Seaurchins (Echinoidea), once dried and without spines, make for a fascinating material for woodturning, here suspendedbetween an African Blackwood button and finial. Fashioning such a piece is highly delicate work!

African Blackwood, a member of the Rosewood family, is the premier detail wood available to woodturners. The finished piece is extremely fragile, and comes with the stand seen here, an ideal way to display and protect it.

 Stand is 11” high x 5” dia | Display object is 6” x 2”
