Bowl turned from Sapele

September 19, 2022

Sapele (Entandrophragma cylindricu) is sometimes referred to as "African Mahogany," a tribute to its beauty, the character of its figure, and its often remarkable chatoyance (a beautiful optical reflection, or iridescence that appears in some woods and gemstones). It is a beautiful gold/brown, and has the dramatic figure of some the most beautiful of the Mahoganies. This is a somewhat larger turning for me, and gives the wood a full opportunity to displace its beauties. I'm particularly pleased with the curves that define the bowl's profile.
