Bowl turned from Honey Locust, with rim of Cocobolo Rosewood

May 31, 2021

Honey Locust [Gleditsia triacanthos] is a domestic hardwood with beautiful soft colors, primarily a yellowish brown that gives it the “honey-like” color for which it is named. It has coarse but very regularly patterned grain.Cocobolo, used here as an accent wood on the rim, is often referred to as the “Queen of the Rosewoods” (family Dalbergia) because of its exceptional beauty. It is dark and richly colored, with highly dramatic grain; it is a very heavy and dense wood, idea for creating rings, finials, inlay, and other detail work.
