Bowl turned from Claro Walnut (Oregon)

January 9, 2021

The Claro Walnut (Oregon) from which this bowl has been turned is flawless, revealing the deep, rich brown colors and swirling figure characteristic of this wood (a sub-species of the Walnut familiar from furniture-making). I am particularly pleased with the outer profile, and the perfectly matching interior form. The finish (following sealing) is Danish Oil and a fine mixture of Carnauba and beeswax in a gentle solvent. The finish is lustrous, but transparent, creating a wonderful immediacy to the wood's surface.
