Photographs from Zamzam camp near El Fasher, North Darfur

December 21, 2021

The photographs that appear here were taken after the delivery of food, soap, medical and schooling supplies to the people of Zamzam camp, one of the most impoverished and desperately needy of all the camps for Internally displaced persons in Darfur. More than 200,000 people--perhaps as many as 300,000--have been forced to call this dramatically under-served camp "home." Among the camp residents are those many who don't have enough food to survive. With the aid of my Darfuri colleague Gaffar, I have been able to direct the proceeds from all woodturning sales to help the poorest of the poor.
